Everything started in 1994 when Alexandra Marnier Lapostolle and her husband, Cyril de Bournet, first arrived in Chile’s Colchagua Valley. They quickly realised its potential for producing world-class wines. This ideal setting, which was revitalised in 1995, was home to vines originating from pre-phylloxera rootstock brought from Bordeaux in the middle of the 19th century.
Coming from a family with a long history of producing high-quality spirits and wines, Alexandra brought exceptional French winemaking practices to Chile and pioneered the development of fine quality wines from the region.
Today it is Charles de Bournet Marnier Lapostolle, seventh generation of the family, who holds the reins of the winery. Working with him is Jacques Begarie, technical director and winemaker, with the support of renowned winemaker Michel Rolland, who is personally involved in the whole production of Clos Apalta.
In the short time since the estate was founded, Clos Apalta's wines have consistently ranked highly (90+ points) among reputable wine trade publications, a testament of the rigorous standards implemented at the winery to produce outstanding wines.

It has been only a year since Hakkasan Shanghai opened its doors and already it has become a hit among the city's dining cognoscenti. Rather than change a winning formula, the Shanghai restaurant continues in the same vein as the others: taking a modern approach to authentic Cantonese dishes. The atmosphere strikes a sweet balance; not too hip, not too brash and not too business-oriented – just perfect! This is definitely not one of these pompous, classical restaurants where you wouldn't dare to raise your voice.
The restaurant boasts a hip lounge bar, several private dining spaces and the main ‘cage’ dining room, which is decorated with latticed woodwork and basks in the soft glow of atmospheric lighting.
Global executive chef Tong Chee Hwee’s signature dishes are all present and correct, from crispy duck with caviar to roasted silver cod with Champagne and honey.
Sommelier James Teng has all regions covered on an amazing wine list. And among the signature wines is one of the greats: Lapostolle's Cuvée Alexandre Chardonnay that I would recommend pairing with the soft shell crab, curry leaf and chili.
