In 1870, visionary entrepreneur and politician Don Maximiano Errázuriz came upon a viticultural paradise in the Aconcagua Valley, where he founded Viña Errázuriz.
His focus on quality lives on today with Eduardo Chadwick, the fifth generation of the family. Chadwick has overseen the winery’s modernisation while maintaining its identity and dedication to producing superior-quality wines, such as its flagship, the Don Maximiano Founder’s Reserve. This was recently awarded Best Wine of Chile in successive years by the Annual Wines of Chile Awards.
With an innovative vision, Viña Errázuriz was the first estate in Chile to implement hillside planting, drip irrigation and precision viticulture. It also introduced Syrah to the country, pioneered the development of the new Chilean appellation of Aconcagua Costa, and opened the first sustainable winery – Don Maximiano Icon Winery.
Viña Errázuriz’s philosophy of excellence, built up over more than 140 years, has cemented its reputation as 'the quality benchmark for Chilean wines', as highlighted by Decanter magazine in July 2005.

'I first came to China in 2000. It was so far away from Chile, both physically (38 hours of flying!) and culturally, that it was a big revelation to experience China's huge cities, its energy and the friendliness of Chinese people; always happy to do business and find ways to help.
Time passed and I lived in Dublin for five years and then London for another five, but I always wanted my family to experience China. The opportunity came at the start of 2012, and I happily took on the challenge of running Viña Errázuriz's Asia operation from Shanghai, forming a team that allowed us to work more closely with our Chinese partners and develop new ways of getting closer to our final consumers.
Our Chinese adventure has been amazing. Travelling throughout the country, understanding its rich culture and experiencing its sophisticated culinary diversity has really been an eye-opener – and a tremendous opportunity – for the Errázuriz company as well as me and my family.
We are just at the beginning of wine development in China and the potential is enormous. I am so happy and proud to be part of the generation that has seen this global transformation in the wine market – one where China and other Asian countries will become very important players.'
